Master's Degrees

Ecofect's Master 2 training relies on 6 Master's Degrees that cover specialized and complementary fields:

Master's Degree in Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution - BEE

The Master's Degree in Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution of the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL) aims at training students in the fields of basic and applied ecology (conservation and management of our environment) and of evolutionary genomics. Current scientific issues and future challenges in these two areas are presented to students through an interdisciplinary approach, that is a landmark of the Lyon's training pathway. This Master's Degree training has been labeled by the Ecofect LabEx.

After a first semester dedicated to the acquisition of the conceptual and methodological bases in ecology and evolution, students are requested to specialize themselves in areas ranging from functional ecology to evolutionary genomics, through several UEs and an interndhip in a research laboratory. The second year offers the possibility to choose between two courses covering several thematics of Ecofect:

Master's Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology - BMC

The Master's Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology of the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL) aims at training students in the field of molecular biology, genetics and cell biology. It replaces the Master's degree in Genetics and Biology since September 2016.

The BMC Master's degree provides a very high level of training in molecular biology, genetics, cell biology and immunology. The purpose of this Master's degree is to train students on the theoretical and practical bases of these biology areas through formal courses and practical work but also during laboratory and / or company internships (2 months in Master 1, 6 months in Master 2). It proposes 6 courses, amongst which 4 cover Ecofect's thematics:

Master's Degree in Biology - BIO

The Master's Degree in Biology organised by the "École Normale Supérieure de Lyon" (ENS Lyon) and the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL) proposes several courses related to Ecofect research thematics. This Master's Degree training, labeled by the University of Lyon, is open to students with a Degree in Biology and Life Sciences, as well as to engineers and veterinians, medical and pharmacy students, and to students having an equivalent international degree. It proposes 5 courses, amongst which 3 cover Ecofect's thematics:
  • Biosciences : this reference course offers an extensive training in Life Sciences.
  • Biosciences - Health : this course offers a great freedom of choice to medical, pharmacy or veterinary students or engineers to reinforce their basic knowledge in biology.
  • Biosciences and Complex system modeling : this course introduces biologists to modeling by allowing them to choose severa joint courses with mathematicians, computer scientists and physicists.
Co-directors of the Master's degree : Cyril Charles, Dominique Baas & Arezki Boudaoud

Master's Degree in Microbiology

The Master's Degree in Microbiology organised by the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL) corresponds to the 2016 evolution of the Microbiology speciality from the Master Ecosciences / Microbiology (created in 2007).
The objective of this Master's Degree is to train students in the current issues of microbiology in both fundamental and applied fields. The training benefits from the strong expertise of the Lyon research teams in this domain. A research internship (7 weeks) is available at Master 1 level; Master 2 training includes a long-term internship (≥5 months) in an academic or industrial environment. It proposes 2 courses covering Ecofect thematics:

Master's Degree in Public Health

The Master's Degree in Public Health organised by the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL), focuses on the interface between Sciences and Health. The objectives of this Master is to train students to develop methodological tools required to implement a suitable research approach for projects at the interface between science and public health.

⇒ For students with a biology background, this Master's Degree is part of a continuum with their initial training and further trains them towards various jobs of the public health sector. The proposed courses combine the operational aspect of the training offered at master's level while opening the possibility to continue with a PhD thesis.
⇒ For students with a health background (medicine, odontology, pharmacy, maïeutics, veterinary school), this Master's Degree provides education in the public health domain as part of a dual research-oriented training.
⇒ For engineering students, this Master's Degree brings a complementary education in quantitative biomedicine for the research sectors requesting expertise on the most advanced technologies.
It proposes 6 courses, amongst which 4 cover Ecofect's thematics:

Master Erasmus + LIVE - Leading International Vaccinology Education

The Master's Degree LIVE gathers 5 European Universities - Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), University of Antwerp (UA), Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (UCBL) and Université Jean Monet Saint-Etienne (UJM) - to offers an international Master education in vaccinology.
LIVE ensures that the training meets the exact expectations of worldwide partners in the vaccinology chain to bridge the gap between fundamental Immunology, Infectiology, Humanities and advanced operational Vaccinology. The LIVE students have the opportunity to be trained in project management, languages and SSH related to vaccinology. LIVE is also built to develop the ability of selected students in the use of digital supports to gain and distribute knowledge (flipped class, digital evaluation, e-learning), but also to interact with social & professional networks (e-Portfolio building) and to answer to public questioning around vaccination (MOOC building). The LIVE program is designed to focus on the following major aspects, along the four semesters of the LIVE Master training:
  • Fondamental and applied immunology, Immunopathology
  • Infectiology & Epidemiology
  • Research & Clinical and industrial vaccinology
  • Multidisciplinary skills
The Master's Degree LIVE is fully integrated to the block courses of the BMC Master's Degree (see above).
